Superdrug Cuts Prices Of Pain Relief Products

Superdrug has reduced the prices of common household pain relief products following several moves by the retailer to cut costs for cash-strapped consumers.

The price reductions cover both own-label and branded lines. Superdrug’s own brand Aspirin Tablets (x16) have been reduced by 40% to £0.29, while Bells Ibuprofen Tablets (x16) are 29% cheaper at £0.39 and Anadin Extra (x12) now costs £1.49 compared to a previous price of £1.89.

Jonathan Fairclough, head of trading retail health at Superdrug, said: “We are committed to supporting our customers in every way we can and healthcare is no different.

“With pain affecting such a large proportion of Brits across the UK, we wanted to reduce the prices of key pain relief products, to hopefully make things a little easier for those who rely on such products to keep pain at bay and go about their everyday lives.”

Back in April, Superdrug cut the price of its own brand suncare range by 20% for the second year running as part of moves to persuade the Government to remove VAT on all suncare.

Latest accounts filed for Superdrug last week show it delivered strong sales and profit growth last year, driven by store expansion, increased sales volumes, and continued own-label growth.

NAM Implications:
  • A headline-grabbing initiative…
  • …with genuine merit in terms of consumer appeal.
  • A pointer for all?
