Superdrug has offered an update on its soon-to-be-launched online marketplace platform, which is set to go live in September 2022.
The health & beauty retailer said it has already signed more than 200 brands, ranging from premium brands to start-ups. Signatories include beauty brand WONDERSKIN, sustainable brand Truthbrush, inclusive ethical brand OPV Beauty, reusable nappy brand TotsBots, and wearable accessories brand Popmask.
Superdrug said it is focused on offering undiscovered, innovative, affordable products to UK consumers, while also targeting the biggest wellness trends, as well as homegrown, female founded, sustainable and inclusive new brands. The platform will be integrated on the existing Superdrug.com site.
Matt Walburn, eCommerce Director, commented: “We have a long track record of supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses and promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry … As we draw closer to the launch of the Marketplace we are excited by the hundreds of brands that we have already enlisted to join us on our next innovative move. The Marketplace makes a listing with Superdrug now possible for more up and coming brands and gives our customers a wider range to enjoy, from luxury to trending beauty and wellness hacks.”
Brands will be expected to meet the same high levels of customer experience that Superdrug shoppers are used to, with orders fulfilled through independent brands, salons and third-party retailers.
NAM Implications:
- Choosing the right supplier-brands will help.
- Avoiding the Amazon Price-follower role will encourage supplier participation.
- …and establish a point-of-difference vs Amazon.
- One to watch.
