The Fragrance Shop has appointed Peter Cowgill, the former Chairman of JD Sports, as its first Non-Executive Chairman to support its ambitious growth plans.
He will work with The Fragrance Shop’s Chief Executive Sanjay Vadera to further develop the fast-growing business.
Cowgill said: “Against the post-pandemic backdrop and current economic headwinds, The Fragrance Shop continues to perform because of its focus on innovation and ensuring it puts the customer and its members at the heart of everything it does.
“I look forward to working with them closely on its expansion plans – particularly in its digital business, as it furthers its international footprint and in support of category expansion through acquisition and organic growth.”
The perfume and aftershave retailer saw its total turnover jump 42.5% to £156.83m in the 53 weeks to 2 April 2022, with EBITDA before exceptional items climbing 68% to £27.53m as it recovered from the effects of the pandemic. The results were also boosted by the opening of 18 new shops, taking the total to 215.
The company recently moved to a new state-of-the-art headquarters and distribution centre at Trafford Park.
Vadera commented: “With our proven strategy and clear momentum, we know The Fragrance Shop can develop into a world-leading multichannel retailer. We’re looking forward to the counsel and experience Peter will bring as we expand and grow.”
