Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pubs Association (BBPA), is stepping down after 10 years in the role.
She leaving the organisation to become Chairman of the new Betting and Gaming Council which will combine the Association of British Bookmakers with the Remote Gambling Association. She will officially step down on 11 October.
BBPA Chairman and Fuller’s Chief Executive, Simon Emeny, commented: “Brigid has led the organisation with confidence, sharp intellect and humour when needed and has successfully raised the profile of the BBPA and its members with Government, media and other legislative organisations.
“She has been an incredible representative of our sector and I know I speak on behalf of all the BBPA members when I say that the BBPA’s loss is most definitely the gambling industry’s gain.”
Nik Antona, National Chairman of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), added: “While CAMRA’s objectives and campaigns have not always matched those of the BBPA, Brigid has been an effective force in the industry, especially on the issues of beer tax, business rates and promoting pubs as a valuable tourism attraction for the UK. She’ll be missed by many in the pub and wider hospitality industry.”
