Unilever has continued its recent acquisition spree by agreeing to buy two oral care brands from P&G.
The Fluocaril and Parogencyl toothpaste brands are primarily sold in France and Spain. Fluocaril specialises in protecting teeth against cavities, whilst Parogencyl is formulated to tackle gum issues.
Unilever stated the acquisition will give it a leading position in oral care within the French pharmacy channel as well as strong positions in Spain. “With their powerful brand heritage, high awareness and sound reputation amongst dentists, these brands are a great complement to Unilever’s existing oral care portfolio,” the firm said.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close by the end of this quarter.
Unilever’s key Beauty & Personal Care division has been expanding rapidly in recent years via a series of acquisitions of fast-growing brands in the sector.
NAM Implications:
- Obviously a shake-up of the French and Spanish oral care categories.
- But NAMs might also anticipate the possibility of the two brands in adjoining countries…
- …for a start…
