Aldi has been named as the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket by trade magazine The Grocer in its weekly price comparison survey.
The discounter retained its unbeaten record as it returned as the ‘guest retailer’ in the latest Grocer 33 study, offering the lowest price for 26 products.
The analysis showed that the Big Four supermarkets were £9.88 (19%) more expensive than Aldi on a basket of 33 everyday grocery items, while Waitrose was £26.91 (52%) pricier.
It also found that Tesco was £12.90 – or 25% – more costly than Aldi on the basket of items.
Earlier this year, a separate study by consumer watchdog Which? crowned Aldi as the cheapest supermarket of 2021.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “The cost of their weekly shop is more important than ever for many people right now, and it’s great that an independent price comparison has once again recognised that Aldi won’t be beaten on price.
“We are the lowest priced supermarket in Britain and our customers always pay less for their shop with Aldi, which is also why we were named Cheapest Supermarket of the Year by consumer champion Which?”
