Aldi landed four wins at the Retail Industry Awards 2024 that took place in London last week. The discounter beat Sainsbury’s, M&S, and Waitrose to be named ‘Drinks Retailer of the Year’ for the seventh consecutive year.
The Retail Industry Award’s judges were said to be particularly impressed with Aldi’s tailored range of beers, wines, and spirits, which continue to develop in both the value and premium ends of the market.
One judge said: “Aldi has really stepped up how they have executed the category, including at the premium end. They have a strong team and have built great connections with their suppliers, particularly English producers.” Another commented: “Aldi has a clear strategic plan for developing the category and a stand-out offering in the off-licence category. Price, category developments, and shopper engagement all underpin Aldi’s place as a leader in drinks retailing.”
The discounter was also awarded ‘Chilled Retailer of the Year’ and ‘Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year’, and received the ‘Diversity, Equality & Inclusion’ award for the second year running.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “These four wins are the cherry on the cake after another year of hard work from our team and it’s fantastic to have that recognised by the industry’s top experts.“I’m incredibly proud of our buyers, suppliers, and everyone else involved who goes above and beyond to make sure our high quality, great value ranges are the best of the best for our customers.“Shoppers will be delighted to hear there are plenty more exciting launches coming in the next few months, particularly for Christmas!”
