Aldi UK will again donate leftover food on Christmas Eve in a bid to help those in need and reduce waste.
Charities and community groups from around the country will be able to collect food donations from the discounter’s stores at 6pm on the 24th.
Last year, Aldi donated just under half a million meals to charities for Christmas.
Fritz Walleczek, Aldi UK’s Managing Director of corporate responsibility, said. “Our Christmas food donation scheme is something we’re really passionate about, and we’re working with Neighbourly this year to pair as many stores up as possible.”
Earlier this year, Aldi launched a partnership with Neighbourly, a platform that links large businesses with local charitable organisations supporting those in need. The retailer stated that 95% of its stores now donate surplus food throughout the year.
NAM Implications:
- Keep in mind that this is one of those downmarket common discounters that never stood a cat’s chance in hell of penetrating the UK retail scene…
- Seriously, this has to be a pointer for the mults, this year at least…
