Aldi Wins Best Supermarket For Wine Award

Aldi was last week crowned ‘Wine Supermarket of the Year’ at the renowned International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) Supermarket of the Year Awards for 2021.

Beating upmarket chain Waitrose, as well as Booths and Lidl, Aldi has now secured three wins in three months for its wine and spirits range. The supermarket scooped ‘Drinks Retailer of the Year’ at the Retail Industry Awards at the end of January and Multiple Wine Retailer of the Year at the Drinks Retailing Awards 2021.

Judges of the IWSC competition praised Aldi for “the innovation achieved while keeping budget in mind on such a wide scale is second to none”.

Recent Kantar data shows Aldi is the fastest-growing retailer for still wines and Ready-to-Drink (RTD) cans and the second fastest-growing retailer for spirits.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “We know our customers want great quality products at the best value and we are incredibly proud of our wine range, which has gone from strength to strength over the past few years.

“Winning the Wine Supermarket of the Year title is a true testament to our buying team’s ongoing commitment and hard work, and we’re excited for what the rest of the year has to bring.”
