Asda has announced the appointment of Liz Evans to lead its George clothing and homewares division.

She will join the business as Managing Director in January 2022, replacing Steph Strike who revealed earlier this year that she would be stepping down.
Evans joins from Fat Face, where she has led the business as CEO since 2019. Prior to that, she was the CEO of fashion brands Oasis, Warehouse and Coast having spent her early career at M&S.
Since Asda was acquired by the Issa brothers and TDR Capital, the company’s management team has undergone a shakeup, including the departure of its Chief Executive. Earlier this month, Asda revealed that both its Chief Operating Officer Anthony Hemmerdinger and Chief Strategy Officer Preyash Thakrar had left the business with immediate effect.
However, the group has also made several high-profile hires in recent months. These include Chief Financial Officer John Fallon, Meg Farren as Chief Customer Officer and Sam Dickson from Waitrose as VP of Own Brand.
Commenting on the appointment of Evans, a joint statement by Mohsin and Zuber Issa said: “We are delighted to welcome Liz to the Asda leadership team – where she will join a fantastic team of talented leaders of our great business.
“George has a strong heritage in offering amazing quality and value and continues to deliver for customers with both its own ranges and working in partnership with other brands. We are confident that Liz will bring her wealth of expertise to grow the business into the future and compliment the expertise of the fantastic George team, who are so passionate about this brand.”
Evans added: “This is a fantastic time to join Asda as it sets out on the next chapter of its story under new ownership. George is a truly iconic British brand and I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead it and work with some brilliantly talented people.”
