Asda has become the first of the big four supermarkets to unveil its Christmas marketing campaign.
Due to debut on TV tonight, the ‘Asda on Ice’ ad is set to a new imagining of the ice dancing classic – the Bolero. The 60-second film follows a family skating through a series of Christmas moments before reaching the big day itself.
The ad (see below) aims to showcase the importance of the little moments that make Christmas special and Asda’s range of festive products.
John Lewis, M&S, and Boots all unveiled their Christmas ads yesterday, with retailers hoping this will be a bumper period for sales after last year’s celebrations were curtailed by a Covid lockdown.
Meghan Farren, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “We didn’t just miss the opportunity to enjoy Christmas dinner together last year – we missed the school plays and the work nights out. This year we want to help our customers make every moment spectacular. ‘Asda on Ice’ takes everyday moments and turns them into a beautiful performance – and that is just the kind of magic we want to bring our customers this year.”
In addition to the Asda on Ice film, the retailer will also be airing four additional 30-second ads which will focus on all the festive products on offer, from gifting and decorations, to party food and Christmas dinner items.
NAM Implications:
- Christmas on the way…
- …but are the products?
- Meanwhile, Christmas promises to be ‘special’, ‘bumper’, ‘unusually friendly’, Piggy & fairylike, dancing and uplifting.
- Fingers crossed…
