Iceland Foods has announced a significant milestone for its The Food Warehouse estate, with the opening of the 200th store in Worcester on 14th October.
The Food Warehouse was the brainchild of Iceland founder, Sir Malcolm Walker, who identified a gap in the market for a large format, cash & carry style retail offer that catered to non-business customers.
The first store opened in 2014, and it has since become a staple in retail parks across the UK, famous for its bulk deals on household brands. Its stores are often double the size of traditional Iceland stores and are designed to replicate the size of a warehouse with wide aisles and a large selection of products.
Iceland Executive Chairman, Richard Walker, has said that The Food Warehouse is central to Iceland Foods’ growth plans and aims to continue opening 20 stores a year.
NAM Implications:
- Retail offers a reliable model of ‘Try it and See’.
- i.e. if the business can afford the initial capex…
- …the results will soon speak for themselves.
- Financially and volumewise…
- Thus, the 200th The Food Warehouse Store could be merely a step on the way for Iceland.
- One to watch…
