Iceland Launches Grocery Offer On Amazon

Iceland is joining the likes of Morrisons and Co-op in selling its grocery range via Amazon’s online store.

An initial trial in selected postcodes within Greater Manchester will see thousands of Iceland SKUs available to Amazon shoppers. The range includes Iceland’s own-label fresh and frozen items, and some of its exclusive branded items from Greggs, Heinz, My Protein and TGI Fridays. All the products will picked directly from local Iceland stores and then delivered by Amazon couriers.

The initiative will be rolled out across further locations in the coming months.

Russell Jones, Director of Amazon Grocery Partnerships, said: “Our new partnership with Iceland offers customers an even bigger selection of great value groceries on Amazon, with lots of delivery options available for Prime members.

“We’ve seen how much our customers value the choice provided with Morrisons and Co-op, and our partnership with Iceland continues to grow the wide grocery selection available through Amazon.”

David Devany, Chief Customer and Digital Officer at Iceland, added: “We’re committed to helping our customers shop the way they want and access our great value products whenever they need them most.

“Partnering with Amazon is yet another way that Iceland customers can get their hands on our exclusive brands and freezer favourites. This is also an exciting opportunity for us to introduce new shoppers to the benefits of shopping with Iceland.”

The move comes as the e-commerce giant doubles down on its grocery ambitions for the UK market following troubles with the roll-out of its bricks & mortar grocery stores last year. After some recent closures of its hi-tech ‘just walk out’ Amazon Fresh stores, the company recently restarted its expansion programme, with its 19th outlet opened on London’s Liverpool Street yesterday.

NAM Implications:
  • A pointer for other retailers.
  • Think about it, if they can get the numbers right…
  • Every little helps!
