Iceland has linked up with sports nutrition brand Myprotein to trial frozen ready meal vending machines.
The first of the new machines has been installed in a Fitness First gym in Wigan, with the two companies planning a nationwide roll-out if the pilot is successful.
The machine sells a range of ten frozen Myprotein meals, each containing 20-30 grams of protein and priced between £5.00 – £5.50.
The microwavable meals include katsu chicken, beef lasagne, Singapore noodles and jerk chicken, and are aimed at gym goers to help the “refuel, build muscle and recover” when they get home.
The frozen meal vending machine is manufactured by Mother, a full-service automatic retail company that provides smart vending solutions.
“Iceland is proud to expand its existing brand partnership with Myprotein, and work together with Fitness First, to bring people quick, easy and nutritious protein-packed meals that support them in living a healthy lifestyle,” said Andrew Staniland, Group Buying Director at Iceland Foods.
“When we came up with the idea, we just knew we had to trial it. We can’t wait to see the machines rolled out across many more Fitness First locations very soon.”
CEO and founder of Mother, Phil Davison, added: “The Myprotein smart vending machine is a perfect fit for gym environments and we’re thrilled to see it launching in Fitness First where we’re sure its members will love the solution. The interactive user interface, cashless and mobile payments, product filtering, nutritional information, product animations and special offers all contribute to what customers are demanding nowadays – a modern day digital retail experience.”
Back in March, frozen food chain Cook launched vending machines containing ready meals aimed at large offices, residential sites, and student accommodation.
