Marks & Spencer has today reopened 49 of its in-store cafés. However, they will only sell hot drinks for customers to take away.
The retailer closed the cafés on 18 March. It took the decision to reopen them after introducing social distancing and hygiene measures which had been trialled at five locations.
An M&S spokesperson said: “The 49 chosen are all where the café is located next to the foodhall – meaning customers can pick up a barista coffee whilst doing their food shop. The M&S Café team has prepared rigorous guidance for colleagues and will have extensive signage for customers so they can pick up their coffee safely.”
The retailer joins other chains reopening for takeaway customers. Pret a Manger, Starbucks and Caffe Nero are reopening sites, while fast food chains McDonald’s and Burger King are opening up drive-thrus.
