Morrisons Hoping To Attract Shoppers With Electric Offer

Morrisons is hoping to attract shoppers to its out-of-town supermarkets by offering rapid electric car charging facilities in its car parks.

The first 50 GeniePoint charging points at its stores go live this week, with a further 50 planned by 2020.

Andrew Ball, fuel & services manager of Morrisons, said: “Customers are beginning to take part in the biggest revolution in car design since the internal combustion engine was first developed. We need to follow them and give them the opportunity to charge while they shop.”

The rapid chargers will charge most electric cars six times quicker than standard charging points. A 20-30 minute charge can give drivers up to 100 miles of travel range.

Morrisons is not the only supermarket to make the technology more available to drivers. Tesco announced last year that it was partnering with VW to roll-out charging bays in the carparks of 600 of its stores.
