Waitrose has reported a rise in shoplifting in its stores across the UK, as an MP said organised gangs were “operating with impunity”.

- Bear in mind that it takes courage to apprehend a shop thief…
- …especially an organised gang member.
- And theft can only be ‘proven’ after a suspect has left the store.
- Also the staff witness often has to attend resulting court hearings in their own time.
- And getting it wrong can result in Tabloid headlines and viral fame via social media.
