Sainsbury’s And Aldi Follow Ocado In Cutting Milk Prices Again

Sainsbury’s is cutting the price of its own-label milk for the second time in three months, adding to evidence that grocery inflation is starting to moderate.

From Saturday, four pints of milk in Sainsbury’s will cost £1.45, down from £1.55, while two pints would cost £1.20, down from £1.25. The move comes after Ocado announced a round of price cuts this week that included it reducing the price of 4 pints of milk to £1.45, claiming that it now sells the lowest-priced milk in the market.

Aldi subsequently announced that it was lowering the cost of its four-pint bottles of milk by 10p to £1.45. Two pints will also reduce from £1.25 to £1.20, and its six-pint bottles will fall from £2.30 to £2.15.

The discounter noted that this was the first time a four-pint bottle of milk has fallen below £1.50 since September 2022.

Several retailers and analysts have said that food inflation in the UK has now peaked, and the recent rounds of price cuts by the supermarket multiples add to hopes that it will moderate significantly in the months ahead after hitting record highs earlier this year.
