Sainsbury’s Opens New Flagship Store

Sainsbury’s opened a new supermarket in Colwick, Nottinghamshire, yesterday – the first of three planned to open around the UK in the run-up to Christmas.

The new flagship 53,000 sq. ft supermarket uses technology that will enable it to operate as one of Sainsbury’s most sustainable stores ever.

Stocking almost 45,000 products, the site also features the retailer’s new ‘Fresh Food Market’ concept with an extensive range of fresh fruit and veg, food-to-go and an in-store bakery.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director said: “We’re delighted to now be able to open our doors to shoppers in Colwick. We have created over 200 jobs at the new store and are really pleased to have delivered one of our greenest supermarkets to date, ensuring it’s a supermarket that’s built for the future.”

Sainsbury’s now operates 599 supermarkets and 811 convenience stores.

Last week, the group stated that it was in a “good position” for the key Christmas trading period despite supply chain disruption contributing to lower sales at its Argos operation.

NAM Implications:
  • Flagship means HQ attention…
  • …therefore worth a try for a listing?
