Imran Nawaz will be Tesco’s next Chief Financial Officer when Alan Stewart steps down in April 2021 after seven years in the role.
Nawaz has spent the last two years as CFO at sugar and food ingredients producer Tate & Lyle. Prior to that, he spent 18 years working for Kraft Foods and then Mondelēz in various finance roles around Europe and the Middle East.
The hiring marks the first significant move by Ken Murphy, Tesco’s new Chief Executive that took over from Dave Lewis last week.
Murphy commented: “At the start of this search, we set out with the goal of finding a candidate with a blend of financial, strategic and leadership qualities, and with the right values to fit into the Tesco culture. In Imran, we have found all those attributes and I am looking forward to working alongside him.”
Nawaz will stay at Tate & Lyle until April 2021 to finish the current financial year and support an orderly transition. Tate & Lyle said it had started looking for a replacement.
