The new paid-for version of Tesco’s Clubcard scheme, that was unveiled earlier this month, will officially launch on 8 November, backed by a major advertising blitz.
Called Clubcard Plus, customers can sign up for monthly fee of £7.99 to be eligible for a host of benefits, including discounts on grocery shopping and own label general merchandise, along with savings on its telecoms and banking services.
Tesco is hoping Clubcard Plus will boost customer loyalty and tempt shoppers back from the discounters, with it claiming that subscribers to the scheme could save over £400 a year.
Alessandra Bellini, Tesco Chief Customer Officer, said: “We know that our customers are always looking for ways to make their money go further. That’s why we’re launching Clubcard Plus – so that they can get better value on the products and services that matter most to them, throughout the whole year.”
Analysts at Barclays said that Clubcard Plus may appeal to many shoppers and could deliver a significant sales boost for the retailer. However, they highlighted that the impact on profits was harder to judge.
