Tesco has revealed today that its new Chief Executive won’t now take up the position until October.
Announcing last year that he planned to step down after a successful six years in the role, Dave Lewis said he wanted to leave the business in the summer of 2020. At the time, no firm date was given for Ken Murphy’s expected arrival.
Tesco confirmed today that Murphy will now start on 1 October after “fully respecting” his contractual commitments, including non-compete obligations, to previous employer Walgreens Boots Alliance.
Tesco stated that Lewis has agreed to continue leading the business until 30 September in order to facilitate a “smooth and seamless handover”. He will leave a week before the group’s half-year results are due on 7 October.
