Tesco is recruiting more than 11,000 temporary staff in what could be extra busy Christmas for the supermarket multiples.
Industry data released by Kantar yesterday showed that sales growth in the grocery sector had accelerated again in recent weeks as shoppers moved a greater proportion of their eating and drinking back into the home in response to rising Covid-19 infection rates and greater restrictions in the hospitality sector. This trend is expected to continue into the festive season alongside the usual battle between the chains to tempt shoppers into their stores over the key trading period.
The UK-wide roles at Tesco will be available in both its Superstores and Extra outlets, and will include picking for online deliveries and store replenishment.
Tesco People Director Rachel Bushby said: “We had a fantastic response for temporary jobs during the spring lockdown and we’d love to hear back from anyone who worked here then.
“We’re looking for people who enjoy working as part of a team and are prepared to go that extra mile in order to help our customers.”
Tesco’s recent Aldi Price Match and Clubcard Prices campaign appears to be paying off with Kantar’s figures yesterday showing the UK’s largest grocer had maintained its market share year-on-year for the second period in a row. It now holds a 26.9% slice of the market – backed by sales growth of 9.2%.
