Tesco Names New Chief Executive For Operations In Ireland

Natasha Adams is set to become the new Chief Executive of Tesco Ireland, replacing Kari Daniels who will step down from the role in April.

Adams, who has been with the business for more than 24 years, is currently the group’s Chief People Officer and is based in Britain. However, she was born in Ireland and will relocate to the country when she takes up her new position. She will also sit on Tesco’s Executive Committee and report to Group Chief Executive Ken Murphy.

Tesco’s current People Director, Emma Taylor, will replace Adams in the Chief People Officer role.

Daniels has spent 20 years working at Tesco, holding several senior commercial and marketing roles before being appointed as CEO of Tesco Ireland in September 2018. She is planning to take time out before moving on to her next project.

After thanking Daniels for her “significant contribution” to the company, Murphy said: “Natasha has made an outstanding contribution in her role as Chief People Officer and her appointment to the new role of Chief Executive Officer Tesco ROI recognises the breadth of that contribution.

“I have no doubt she will bring the same blend of strategic thinking and people centricity as she leads our Irish business into an exciting future.”

The changes come as Tesco looks to grow its business in Ireland. Among recent developments are its plans to acquire 10 Joyce’s supermarkets in Galway, pending approval by the local competition regulator.

Tesco currently has 151 stores across Ireland with a grocery market share of just over 22%.

Trading results released by Tesco last month showed that like-for-like sales in Ireland slipped 3.3% in its third quarter but grew 0.3% over the Christmas period after strong online gains.
