Tesco Stepping Up Expansion In Ireland

Tesco has announced plans to create 400 new jobs in the Republic of Ireland as part of a €40m investment, which will see it open ten new stores across the country over the next 12 months.

The new outlets will be both larger supermarkets and smaller Express shops, bringing Tesco’s total presence in Ireland to 193 stores and a workforce of over 13,500 employees.

Around 100 new jobs will be created at Tesco’s new store in Fermoy, Co Cork, which is set to open at the end of this month. Additional stores will be opened in Dublin, Galway, Louth, and Meath.

“This €40m investment underscores our commitment to maintaining our position as a leading employer and retailer in Ireland,” said Tesco Ireland CEO, Geoff Byrne.

“Our colleagues are at the heart of our business, and we look forward to welcoming new team members this year and recognising them with market-leading rewards and benefits.”

Last month, Tesco reported that its first-quarter like-for-like sales in Ireland rose by 5.5% after continued investment in its fresh proposition drove food sales up 5.8%.
