Tesco To Close Convenience Stores Early So Staff Can Watch Euro Final

Tesco will close its Express convenience stores in England early on Sunday so its staff can watch the Euro 2024 final.

Prior to England’s win in the semi-final against the Netherlands last night, the group had promised to close more than 1,800 Express stores at 7.30pm, instead of the usual 10pm or 11pm, if the team reached the final.

Tesco said the move would allow thousands of its workers to get home or to the pub in time for kick-off at 8pm, while still receiving their normal pay for those hours.

Stores in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will remain open in line with their usual hours.

NAM Implications:
  • Patently a morale boost for staff in Tesco England convenience stores…
  • …but those in the rest of UK convenience stores might appreciate an option.
  • Folks can be funny?
