Waitrose And Deliveroo Expand Partnership; Adds Charity Element

Waitrose has expanded its grocery trial with Deliveroo to 40 stores in response to customer demand.

The original trial launched in September with five shops involved. This was then extended to 30 stores in October with the company saying at the time that further roll-out would be governed by demand.

Deliveroo customers can now choose from more than 650 Waitrose items, including ready meals, fruit & vegetables, meat, milk, and snacks for rapid local delivery.

Waitrose revealed the expansion of the service alongside its new ‘Donate a Plate’ campaign to help provide meals for vulnerable communities. Shoppers using Deliveroo can now choose to make a £3 donation via the Waitrose menu on the app, enough to cover the cost of providing a number of hot meals for struggling families through FareShare, the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

Waitrose and Deliveroo will be matching donations between them, up to £20,000, with all the donations going to FareShare.

The tie-up is part of the John Lewis Partnership’s ‘Give a Little Love’ campaign, through which Waitrose and John Lewis are asking for people’s help to raise £4m for two charities, Home-Start and FareShare.

Martin George, Customer Director, Waitrose said: “As our partnership with Deliveroo continues to grow, we’re now joining forces to encourage customers to help provide much-needed meals for vulnerable communities – at the most challenging time of the year.  This further boost to FareShare will play a valuable part in our Give a Little Love appeal to support 100,000 families in need.”
