Waitrose Goes Virtual With Wine Tasting Experience

After its ‘Wine Tasting at Home’ service was halted by the lockdown, Waitrose has brought it back in a new virtual format.

The supermarket had previously offered customers the chance to book a wine specialist to visit their homes for a two-hour tasting with six or more guests.

However, the retailer is now offering the option to sign up to either Virtual Wine or Gin Tasting at Home where the Waitrose drinks expert will discuss the drinks online.

Customers can pick a session and ask friends and family to join online, or they can enjoy the experience alongside like-minded individuals.

Anne Jones, Drinks Category Manager at Waitrose said: “The Waitrose Wine Tasting at Home experiences have been incredibly popular with our customers, so we are thrilled to be able to offer them online. They are a fun and relaxed way for you and your friends and family to get together virtually and learn a little bit more about wine and gin.”

This new service is part of a wider initiative from both Waitrose and John Lewis to stay connected with their customers during the lockdown. The two chains have been offering a series of virtual experiences, from wine tasting to style talks, hosted by specialist staff on Zoom.
